• Syracuse.com Jeffery Shipman pleads guilty in Syracuse after taking daughter out of country Jeffery Shipman, who took his daughter out of the country in a custody dispute, pleaded guilty today to one count of obstructing the lawful parental rights of the girl’s mother…Shipman told the U.S. District Court in Syracuse today that he spent three years in Thailand and a year and a half in Europe. He said he taught English in Thailand. He was formerly a project manager with state Department of Transportation…Prosecution and defense agreed on a sentence of 30 months in prison. Judge Norman Mordue said that jury selection had been scheduled to begin Friday. (August 23, 2012)

But it was to no avail.U.S. District Judge Otis Wright ordered a 27-month prison sentence for George Silah, one of two brothers who abducted their sons and took them out of the United States without the consent of their ex-wives in 2008.   BUFFALO, N.Y — An upstate New York woman who was convicted of international parental kidnapping of a child was sentenced to 18 months in prison. The sentence is the result of an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) (March 26, 2012)

• ABC Philadelphia Wanted Mom on the Run Caught in Canada (ABC 6) It took a three and a half year international manhunt. The FBI has finally captured Claudia Librett, the woman wanted for kidnapping her own daughter in Montgomery County. Police in Ontario, Canada say Librett surrendered in a small
  town near Niagara Falls. She had been living with her daughter, Rachel, for several years. Librett fled Lower Merion with Rachel, in January of 2003, when the girl was 3-years-old. She was involved in a custody battle with her husband Michael at the time. A press conference on this case is scheduled to take place at the bottom of the hour. (Aug. 07, 2006)

She and the child had been living in Niagara-on-the-Lake for the past 2 years until leaving the area last week. • AM900 CHML Wanted Women Flees Niagara ST.CATHARINES, Canada by Ken Mann – A 51-year-old woman, wanted by authorities in Pennsylvania, has been tracked to Niagara-on-the-Lake. But Niagara Police believe that Claudia Librett has managed to slip through their grasp. They say the woman and her 7-year-old daughter were last seen running from a condominium complex on Wednesday. • America’s Most Wanted Millionaire Mother Takes Off With 4-Year-Old Daughter The FBI and
  Pennsylvania authorities say 4-year-old Rachel Librett Marran disappeared from Narberth, Pa. on Jan. 10, 2003. According to officials, Rachel was kidnapped by her mother, Claudia Beth Librett, after a judge ruled that Librett and Rachel’s father had to share custody of their daughter. (Jan. 16, 2006)

Stanley and Ralph Vigoda — Ellen Dever returns to Philadelphia after nearly two years on the lam with the Children of the Underground. She was arrested and arraigned in Chester County Courthouse in West Chester,
  Pennsylvania on charges of concealing the whereabouts of a child in violation of custody orders. Her lawyer, Richard Sprague, entered her plea of not guilty and waived her right to a preliminary hearing.   refuge in Brevard from parents, lawsuits by Eric Frazier Staff Writer — This reporter from the Charlotte Observer is trying to tell us that Faye Yager has quit the Underground. He claims that she cooks morning breakfast for her guests at the Bed and Breakfast in Brevard, North Carolina. We have advice for law enforcements officials, they should check the guest registry and the license plates for her guests. Also, if Yager really were responsible for helping hide hundreds of mothers, we wouldn’t recommend staying a night at her B and B. The reporter also gets a quote from the grandfather of a recovered child in North Carolina. He doesn’t like Yager anymore than we do.(April 24, 1999)

Hunt said that granting Jeffrey Rubenstein’s request for a temporary restraining order against Faye Yager would involve the federal court in a child custody matter that instead belongs in state court. Okay Judge Hunt, it is common knowledge that Bonnie Rubenstein has been seen abroad. Hasn’t he heard of Public Law 103-173, Section 1204 International parental kidnapping. The jurisdiction for this federal crime with of 3 year prison term is the federal courts. We suspect this case will eventually find its way back in the federal courts. (September 3, 1998)

• Maryland SunSpot, Sharon Elaine Wimperis, 50, was arrested by FBI agents Aug. 5 at her apartment near Detroit. She was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution for parental kidnapping. Wimperis abducted her son in 1990 after losing custody to her former husband. It is believed that Mrs. Wimperis received assistance from the Underground due to the allegations
  that appeared in a 1992 Washington Post Cover Story with the child’s drawings. The child, now 14 was returned to the custodial father. The Washington Post did not cover this story.  (August 25, 1998)

Hunt Jr. adjourned the hearing on August 7, 1998 as for at least 10 days as evidence grows against Faye Yager. The new evidence obtained by Bipin Shah that Faye, her husband and teenage son flew to Germany on June 8, 1997, the day Dever disappeared. There’s also numerous civil
  lawsuits in addition to the federal grand jury investigation. A father from Connecticut also testified in front of an Atlanta Judge this week. Rubenstein’s former spouse Bonnie was was one the mothers profiled in the controversial Pittsburg Post Gazette article
  by Mackenzie Carpenter with photographer Allan Detrich present. Nick Souris of Smyrna testified he rented an apartment near Paris to Faye Yager in February. Souris had met a woman named Liz and her son, David. Souris, when shown photos of Bonnie and Randy Rubenstein, identified them as Liz and David.  (August 7, 1998)

Faye Yager and her former attorney Hirsch Friedman have been ordered to appear before the federal grand jury. Inquirer correspondent Stephanie A. Stanley reports that Hirsch had written a letter to Shah’s attorney Nick Chilivis
  asking that Shah putt 2 million in an escrow account in a Swiss bank; agree that a 1 million bond to be paid if Shah did not keep the agreement; agree that all legal proceedings against Yager be dropped, with federal prosecutors concurring. The letter also sought monetary and custody provisions for Dever and gave Shah and his attorneys one day to respond. U.S. attorney Paul Sarmousakis has also asked Hirsch for his fingerprints and picture. Connie Chung of ABC News is the latest to be accused of by Faye Yager’s cast of of characters while attempting to cover this story. We’ve been told by several parents that this is a common occurrence when the alleged paranoid schizophrenic Yager appears in court. This time it’s her wheel chair bound attorney Hirsch Friedman who is doing the accusing. (May 30, 1998)
• Time Magazine, Hide and Seek. This is the cover story millionaire Bipin Shaw’ssearch for his two children in the Underground. He has offered a 2 million dollar reward for the location of his children from his former spouse  Ellen Dever. (May 11, 1998)
• University of Colorado Peace and Conflict Mail List, Harold Pepinsky Posting. Indiana University Feminist Criminal Justice Professor Hal Pepinsky receives a call from Howard Yager. He wants University Peace and Conflict Mail list members to show support for Faye Yager. We recall that Hal has Faye Yager speak in his classrooms. Hal claims that he reviewed the infamous Underground Information Binder on Ellen Dever. It’s a good thing that Indiana University is better known for their basketball team.  (May 8, 1998)
• The Indian Express, With $2 m bounty, NRI launches a hunt for wife and two kids A good article by reporter Chidanand Rajghatta that details the over $600,000 that Bipin Shah’s former spouse Ellen Dever took off with. The article also discloses that Bipin had custody from Thursday through Saturday every week. We’ve heard that other fathers had similar custody schedules.

• The American Lawyer, The birth of the Underground by Francis Wilkinson — Karen Newsom sees her children once a week for 90 minutes. Her visits with 4-year-old Katy and 2-year-old Adam take place just outside Hattiesburg, Mississippi, in a house owned by her ex-husband, Eugene Newsom, the children’s father. Eugene supervises each minute of the visit and tells Karen when her time is up. Afterward she drives back to her home in Gulfport, Mississippi. (May 1998)
• MSNBC, A Call for Help. This article includes a picture of 13 year old Amanda Otter by controversial photographer Allan Detrich who was present with his camera when Amanda is alleged to have placed herself in the Underground without assistance from her mother and known underground leader April Meyer. April Meyer entered the Underground when Amanda was a toddler appearing on TV Talk Shows Geraldo and Sally Jesse Raphael while in hiding. There are real-audio sound clips on this site from Amanda, Allan. There is a picture of a crying April Meyer who wants us to believe that she wasn’t involved in this crime. What we can’t seem to figure out is how this photo journalist was present in Ms. Meyer’s home before the crime took place.  (May 1998)
• Christian Science Monitor, Family:Groups Help Parents Avoid Desperate Measures Marilyn Gardner, staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor reports that “Seventy percent of parents Faye helps are mothers and 30 percent are fathers.” We only know of a couple of fathers that Faye ever helped. These reporters never seem to get it right. Show us the numbers Marilyn and Faye!

• The Press Enterprise-Riverside, CA by Joe Strup Custody Battle for Amanda Otter The State Court of Appeals hears arguments for the trial court’s decision that awarded custody of alleged Underground leader April Meyer’s child Amanda to the father. Alan D. Rosenfeld, the Underground Attorney has several quotes in here. We hear that Rosenfeld is the Family Law Attorney and Meyer’s criminal defense attorney. Rosenfeld has also defended other Underground moms.  (February 5, 1998)

For reasons unknown, Detrich decides to provide an alias to the child. • Men’s Health Magazine, Alicia, underground Donovan Webster covers the story of Texas abductor Pat Hope. Hope abducted her daughter with her new husband Mark Hall. Hall was a financially troubled former Carrollton City Councilman. This child was eventually recovered in the Dominican Republic. Hope’s parental rights were terminated at the time.  (October 1995)
• TwinCities.com Pioneer Press,  Police Seek Woman Who Took Her Kids paternal custody. The FBI continued a nationwide search Thursday for a Minneapolis woman suspected of kidnapping her two children. Holly-Ann Collins moved out of her Minneapolis apartment June 30 and allegedly kidnapped the children the same day as they walked to a shop near their divorced father’s Crystal home, where they were living. “She and the children haven’t been seen since,” said Minneapolis-based FBI agent Larry Mefford. In the mid- to late 1980’s, Mississippi mothers Karen Newsom and Dorrie Singley were forced to ‘kidnap’ their daughters and/or flee the state to rescue their (allegedly) sexually abused children from court-awarded
