Opinion: Your Say: What about dad?

December 14, 2015

Here is a post from the Sunshine Coast Daily.

DOROTHY Lee Barnett, it wasn’t until I got to the quote “I went through hell” in the story on page six of the Sunshine Coast Sunday (13/12/2015), about you stealing your daughter from her father in America and going on the run from authorities for the next 20-plus years that I became irate enough to put pen to paper.

Those authorities in the USA thought your daughter’s father was substantial enough as a human being to be allocated custody over yourself and subsequent events proved beyond doubt they were right.

You not only deprived the man you had a child with all the joys of parenthood for 20 years, you did it in such a way that person (the birth father) couldn’t celebrate a birthday with his daughter. Instead he had to grieve about never knowing how his flesh and blood handled the challenges all children have in life and never having the joy of helping them overcome those hurdles because you were hiding her existence from him.

He never got to cuddle his offspring. He never had the pleasure of reading her a bedtime story. He never had the opportunity to apply a Band-Aid. He was never there for her as most fathers like to be. And why? Because you decided to deprive him of all of those joys of parenthood in defiance of the courts in the USA.

Any organisation that supports you should take a good hard look at themselves, and for a local surf club [Mooloolaba Surf Club] to condone your actions by offering support is a tragedy.

The surf club you thanked is supposed to be there for the families that make up the community – not for illegal immigrants who defy the laws of the land. Make no mistake Ms Barnett, you were an illegal immigrant.

Congratulations are due to Stephen Schofield, who no doubt tossed and turned over destroying a friendship over a matter of principal when he chose to contact authorities and stop this farce from continuing.

Finally, to the editors of this paper … where is the other side of this tragedy?

Where is the father’s version of “I’ve been through hell”, because without doubt he has been through a daily hell while the sad excuse for a caring human being you have reported favourably about (again) is still getting support for being a current criminal.

Dorothy Lee Barnett – Convicted Felon is No American Hero

December 10, 2015
Dorothy Lee Barnett

A Convicted Felon – International Parental Kidnapper – Not Charged for Passport Fraud

Dorthy Lee Barnett plead guilty for Felony Child Concealment and was sentenced to prison. The prosecutor should have not allowed her to plead her charges down. She is now trying to market story as some type of American Hero that took on the USA and won. How could she have won if she went to prison.

It also sounds like she actually thinks Hollywood might be interested in a movie of her pathetic story. These stories of underground moms have been done before with not much interest. She was spared by the prosecutor in not charging her with the passport charges that should have sent her to prison for 20 years.

We think the only thing that is interesting about her story was that it seems very obvious that her now adult child has Stockholm Syndrome. If any movie is done, the title should be Stockholm Syndrome.

For Federal Prosecutors and Local District Attorneys prosecuting these cases, this should now serve as notice that they must fully prosecute these truly heinous crimes against innocent children.

We’ve always felt that our Parental Kidnapping Laws should be changed to a maximum of 18 years in prison. For every year a child is kidnapped from the custodial parent, the kidnapper should spent the same number of years behind bars.

Will CBS 48 Hours Portray Dorthy Lee Barnett as a Pathetic Kidnapper?

November 13, 2015
Dorothy Lee Barnett

A Convicted Felon

Editor’s Note: This show aired on 12/06/2015. See the comments

Dorothy Lee Barnett plead guilty and is now a convicted felon for Parental Kidnapping. She kidnapped a very young innocent child and deprived her Yale-educated former spouse of his parenting rights. She has shown no remorse for her crime and has alienated the now adult-child from ever wanting to have a relationship with her biological father. She was spared a 20 year prison term by the Judge and District Attorney in South Carolina. The Family Abduction Community would have wanted to have seen the full 20 year sentence including the U.S. Passport fraud charges.

On Saturday, November 14, 2015 Dorothy Lee Barnett, the former flight attendant that never finished college will tell her pathetic story to CBS 48 Hours. The previous stories covered by CBS almost always tell the story from the mother’s perspective. They rarely interview a social scientist that would tell you that the motive for this crime is “anger and revenge” against the other parent, and not “love and protection” of the child.

In the likes of Jerry Springer, shows like CBS 48 Hours love to have criminally prosecuted and guilty individuals like Dorothy Lee Barnett tell their stories on National Television in the U.S. In some countries like Australia, these guilty inviduals get paid by the TV Shows (Barnett received hundreds of thousands of dollars from an Australian TV Show, that most likely went to her attorneys rather than Savanna). Barnett is more than likely going on the show to try and publicize her way to a future book deal since she will probably never work another day in her life with her Felony conviction.

We also will get to hear a few sound bites from Protective Parent supporter Bruce Michell. This guy is still hunting for the missing documents that prove Barnett’s innocence that of course would have prevented her from pleading guilty. With supporters like Bruce Michell and other supports, their unconditional support for anyone that kidnaps an innocent child is truly mystifying.

What we won’t hear on CBS is that Australia has a law preventing parents in custody disputes from posting photos of missing children. In fact it’s a crime to post a photo of a missing child in a Family Abduction. That’s more than likely one of the reasons Dorothy Lee Barnett was able to hide in Australia. In addition, Australians have not yet established a national missing children’s organization like the U.S. Department of Justice funded National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

We really hope that Dorothy Lee Barnett and Savanna don’t think they are in anyway interesting to TV viewers in the United States like the Kardashians. They are not and will never be. And if CBS does not show Dorothy Lee Barnett as the pathetic kidnapper she is, then what an insult it will be to the thousands of searching parents in not only in the United States but the World. Maybe someday some producer of this show will have a family member or friend impacted by the horrible crime, and only then will they realize how they got the story wrong.

The CBS 48 Hours show was produced by Liza Finley, Ryan Smith, Peter Schweitzer, Senior Producer and Susan Zirinsky, Senior Executive Producer.

Editor’s Note: In 1997, CBS featured a story on a similar case. The mother plead guilty and the custodial father raised the child. We believe CBS got that story wrong from the beginning and even might have indiretly aided and abetted the mother in this crime. Some of us allege that without CBS and their story, the mom may never had kidnapped the son to Europe.

Dateline also aired the story in August 2015 and interviewed the father. See that video.

A List of Pathetic Parental Kidnappers

September 8, 2015

Here’s a list of some of the pathetic parental kidnapping cases we have followed.

Genevieve and Scott Kelley

They pathetically kidnapped Mary Nunes in 2004 and were not arrested until 10 years later in 2014. Both have served or are serving jail time. They have not yet supported a reunification of the now adult child and her biological parents. Some believe they are still kidnapping her. Most believe that this now adult-child is emotionally brainwashed and will need to be deprogrammed.

Kelly Rutherford

Most of the parental kidnappers that made our list engaged in long-term abductions. Kelly Rutherford, also claiming to be an activist has been speaking at Protective Parent Conferences. She probably thought she had a free pass due to her celeb-status. She kidnapped her children for over 3 days when she did not send the kids back to Monaco after her parenting time had expired. Only Kelly and her children know what she told them during those 3 days. Our guess is that it doesn’t make her Coparenter of the Year.

We encourage the adult-victim children to seek therapy and to separate from their parental kidnapper. These adult-children should contact a therapist. The www.takeroot.org would also be a good resource.

It is unfortunate that there is not Victim Restitution Funds for these adult-children to seek the therapy they rightfully deserve for the abduction, parental alienation and other trauma that was horribly inflicted on the.

Breaking: Dorothy Lee Barnett Gets 21 Month Prison Sentence

February 10, 2015
Dorothy Lee Barnett

A Convicted Felon

This just in. Dorothy Lee Barnett plead guilty will receive a 21 Month Prison Sentence and 2 years supervised release. Here is what we know so far:

  • Barnett’s plea was heard, and sentence was imposed, by United States District Court Judge Richard M. Gergel. The International Parental Kidnapping count carried up to three years’ imprisonment under 18 U.S.C. § 1204 and each of the False Statement charges carried up to ten years’ imprisonment under 18 U.S.C. § 1542.
  • Savanna Todd / Samantha Geldenhuys spoke on her behalf. She said, “I was loved beyond belief.” She also spoke of her reunion with her father, “It was an experience I cannot describe in words.” (Editors Note: WOW!)
  • The Judge said, “It is important that others be deterred from essentially taking the law into their own hands.”
  • Barnett was charged with International Parental Kidnapping and falsifying two passport applications. We don’t know what felony crimes she plead guilty to.
  • It doesn’t sound like Dorothy Lee Barnett made a statement with an apology to the victims. She let her daughter do the talking.(Note: That disappoints us)
  • Harris Todd’s Attorney, Graham Sturgis said, “He recognizes the need to love her mother,” Sturgis said. “Very few of us will ever know the experience of having lost a child. … No punishment will ever make good the loss that Mr. Todd has suffered.” (Note: We agree with Graham!)
  • We don’t know what the conditions were for her 2 years supervised release. Although in a supervised release, that would usually means she would have to reside in the county.
  • We don’t know if the judge ordered restitution paid to the victim Father.

Breaking: Dorothy Lee Barnett to Plead Guility

February 6, 2015

Hearing Scheduled for Tuesday February 10, 2015

Will Lee Apologize to Harris Todd, the Australian People, her daughter?

Dorothy Lee Barnett

To Plead Guilty

It is being widely reported that accused parental kidnapper Dorothy Lee Barnett “Lee” is scheduled to plead guilty in a Charleston, South Carolina, USA Courthouse on Tuesday, February 10, 2015. The terms of the plea bargain are not yet known.

Editors Note: We sincerely hope that Lee Barnett issues a public apology to Harris Todd and his family. He rightfully deserves that! This Searching Parent has been through so much as a victim of a parental kidnapping. The sleepless nights, that feeling of not knowing where Savanna was, and most importantly the disparaging and unproven allegations against him. In the words of Dale Carnegie, “If you are wrong, admit it quickly and emphatically.” It took Lee many years to arrive at that decision, but the most important thing is that she did. This will not only save both families of the pain of a grueling trial, but is the first step toward allowing everyone to move forward in their lives.

There have been great strides in the ’80s and ’90s to improve our nation’s family court and child protective services systems. There are many hard working professionals that are helping to ensure children and parents rights are protected in these cases. Both Parental Kidnapping and United States Passport Forgery are very serious crimes and there should never be any legal excuses. We hope that the judge ensures that Dorothy Lee Barnett is being held accountable. There have been efforts by some proclaimed child protection advocates and attorneys to try make parental kidnapping a legal alternative. We hope the sentencing in this case will help to deter others from committing these crimes.

We will wait and see what happens on Tuesday.

The following comment was posted by Lorraine. We agree her.

Editor, not only would it be hoped that this woman issues a long overdue public apology to Harris Todd and his family, but also an apology to:

* the Australian people who were expected to accept as gospel whatever nonsense this woman or her supporters spewed forth, particularly about Harris Todd.

* the Australian taxpayers who were obliged to wear the financial burden of this woman’s numerous extradition challenges – a wanted woman on the run who falsely entered and falsely lived in Australia.

* to the gullible who generously donated money to this woman’s legal fees through GoFundMe “Funds for Justice: Dorothy L Barnett” – more fool them for allowing themselves to be separated from their money for a person who apparently is finally going to plead guilty.

Apologies to Harris Todd and his family surely must also be forthcoming from:

* Channel 7’s Today Tonight current affairs program for their trashy reporting of this matter. Thankfully, the program has now been axed in Queensland.

* The Federal Member for Fisher, Mal Brough. Who can forget his very public backing of this woman, a non-Australian citizen on false documents – “I don’t believe justice was served by anybody 20 years ago and I’m certainly not going to see it repeated”. Or, pardon his appalling and very public boast, “She has been terribly wronged and I can’t leave a friend sitting in jail without giving it a darned good go to get her out of jail”. Remember his blurt, “There’s one thing that’s crystal clear to me, that the judge, in hindsight, back in America, was 100 percent wrong” and “By all means I’ll fight for this family”. “I will make sure the attorney general is well aware of every aspect of this to the best of my ability”. Gee, Mal, egg on your face yet again. Mal’s public office history is such that I don’t think he ever gets to wipe egg off his face.

* The bud set – remember, “The story of Dorothy Lee Barnett (Alex Geldenhuys) is about to unfold.” Also remember, “For 20 years, her friends in the US have stored in wardrobes, cupboards, basements and attics, the evidence, affidavits, and transcripts relating to the trial. These documents, all on the public record and (should be) held by the father’s attorneys have become available to Alex to finally set the record straight.”

Now I read Dorothy Lee Barnett is about to set the record straight with a guilty plea.

Parental Kidnappers of 2014

December 9, 2014

Here’s our list of parental kidnappers of 2014. During the year, all of these parental kidnappers were incarcerated or jailed for their crime. All of them kidnapped their children from the United States to another country and lived underground or in hiding. In 2015, each of these kidnappers will go on trial or be sentenced by a Federal Judge for their crime against an innocent child.

We would like to see each of them spend one day in jail for every day they kidnapped their child from their custodial former spouse. Parental Kidnapping is one of the most horrific crimes against a child and is one of the most severe forms of Domestic Violence. We applaud the efforts of the United States Department of Justice, International Law Enforcement Agencies and the Legal Systems and Local U.S. Law Enforcement for ensuring the criminal prosecution of these cases.

In 2015, we look forward to seeing convictions in these cases. We also want to see every searching parent in these cases reunified with their now adult-children. It’s time for these adult victim-children to be the responsible adult in these cases and send a clear message to their kidnapper. Their kidnapper had other legal options and should never had committed this outrageous crime.
