DETAILS

On December 16, 1997, Elizabeth Ann Stratton fled her Antioch, California, home with her two non-custodial children. On December 19, 1997, a letter written by Stratton arrived at the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office stating that she had taken the children, left California, and did not want anyone to find her or the children. Stratton was in the middle of a child custody dispute with her ex-husband at the time.

Her vehicle was later found parked at the Sacramento International Airport in Sacramento, California. It is believed that Stratton may have made contact with a group in Atlanta, Georgia, which assists women and children who claim to need protection from abusive husbands and parents.

A local complaint and arrest warrant for Stratton were issued by the Municipal Court in December of 1997 and she was charged with parental kidnapping. A federal warrant for Stratton for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution was obtained in the Northern District of California on January 12, 1998.

Stratton’s two children were both safely located in 2010. She remains a fugitive.

I believe that mrs. stratton probably had a good reason for doing what she did. If that is so, I hope that the fbi never finds her….I know i left and had to protect my son who is now 30 yrs. old. He wasn’t safe and the law enforcement did not care to protect him. He now has schizophrenia….Our case has never been solved –even though it involved about 20 plus other children. also, my son named a person who he says that he saw get murdered.

Hello my Name is Elizabeth Ann (Laton) Race. I’m having difficulties with this whole situation I’ve been researching for over three years now. Everyone I know is lying and keeping secrets from me and on top of it all. Someone is selling information about everything I have been doing to over six websites. I think I Know the lady named (Stratton) as Kim lives in Lawton Oklahoma . I currently am not employed but think I should be getting paid for things I do see. Lori Ruff or Sue Turner also in Oklahoma looks like a younger version of my Mother In-law the person that makes my life a living hell (AKA )Paula J. Huggins

    Look into Kim Skiffington Oklahoma

  4. Mon DeLuca says:

    INCORRECT
Elizabeth Stratton DID have custody of her children and father had visitation when she fled. Custody was granted to father Micheal Smith in January when she failed to appear in court because she had already fled and sent out binders to officials as to why the system had failed her children despite evidence. Get your facts straight and keep your opinions of “patheticness” out of reporting.

    • Sue Smith says:

      I agree Mona.
If you have never experienced the corruptness of the Family Courts, then no one (and I mean No ONE) has the right to makes judgement about protecting a child at any cost!
Stratton had all sorts of evidence to prove her two children were in danger but, the Contra Costa Court just turned their heads like they did for so many other cases.

      • underwatch says:

        Sue,

        1. It sounds like you believe both Child Protective Services and Family Law Courts are corrupt with Judges, Mediators and Social Workers that are not interested in protecting children. That the courts in the Stratton custody case had errored due to a corrupt system rather than the movement from maternal custody to joint custody. Do you really ignorantly think the father gave a paper bag of money to the professionals in this case?

        2. If Stratton really had evidence, do you really think that Child Protective Services or Law Enforcement would not have taken action.

        3. Why didn’t Elizabeth Ann Stratton go to a Women’s Shelter and contact and notify the District Attorney of her whereabouts? With the Violence Against Women’s Act Federal Funds available at the time, that was a legal resource available to her. Or did she run up her credit cards, throw all her outstanding bills in the garbage not file her income taxes, give all of her personal property to Faye Yager or April Curtis and play Judge, Jury and Executioner and kidnap her children.
