Karen Kristine Sudderth abducted her child from Lewis County in Washington in 1996 and fled to Thailand and Africa. At the time, she had a custody agreement with her former spouse. Lewis County prosecutors charged Sudderth with first-degree custodial interference in January 1997, and she was charged in November 1997 by federal prosecutors for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.In 1999, Karen Kristine Sudderth was indicted by a grand jury on international parental kidnapping charges. She faces a prison term of up to three years and a $250,000 fine.
Parental Kidnapper, Karen Sudderth was on the run for 12 years and surfaced back in the United States after her child turned 18. Judge Nelson Hunt did not accept a plea and sent Karen Sudderth to jail for 88 days.
